What's new this week -- Sept 28

Kinsey's joke: we are driving toward home and Kinsey gets really quiet in the backseat. After parking I open her door and she has her head to the side with her eyes closed. "Oh," I say, "Kinsey is asleep." Then she starts giggling and then laughing like crazy. Heehee, hahaha, great joke. (She fooled me the first time, but she's so funny, she's tried it several times.)

Kinsey is starting to talk back and be apparently willfully disobedient. Hmmmmm. And she doesn't want me to help her with anything if someone else is around. She wanted Amy to help her go to the bathroom and Dad to get her out of the carseat, absolutely and definitely not mom. Where's the love? Thank goodness she can still be sweet and nice most of the time. Maybe this is some "terrible two" kicking in.

In spite of being rather clingy, Kyler has started not wanting to hold my hand when we walk. We went to the University of Washington Arboretum for a walk and Kyler ran down the path refusing to listen to me or hold my hand. He seemed to know exactly where he wanted to go. He still fell down a few times, but just got up and kept going. On that same outing Kinsey had her first experience peeing in nature. There wasn't a bathroom nearby and she had just done number 2 in her underwear (grrrrrr) -- I really, really didn't want her to pee in her pants, so she got to go in the bushes. I was scared that someone was going to come by and be horrified (people are like that in Washington), but we lucked out.

Kyler had his 15 month checkup this week and he is doing great. I think he is in a low percentile of size, but he is keeping on his curve very nicely, so the doctor was suitably impressed. So he must be getting some nutrition from somewhere in the little food he eats. Actually, this week he has also started eating a little bit more food ... he ate some broccoli and mac'n'cheese. As always, we'll see how long it lasts.
